Sculpture 1977

Art Studio, Calder, Inner Peace, Joan Miro

I used to carve stone and lots of it. Mostly limestone, the quarries in my area are plentiful and willing to give up small to medium pieces. As a poor artist, free was the invitation I needed.

Having a studio, plus creating and running it, are almost two separate skill-sets. You can imagine which skill I had and which I didn’t. After many shows, gallery representations and purchases, I couldn’t find enough money to keep it going. I will always regret that decision and now believe I should have gone after it do or die. It is a huge regret, but have made peace with myself.

Being an illustrator is rewarding and almost as messy. At least I am not coughing and sneezing dust. Paint doesn’t fly.
